Miches is a port of 800 inhabitants at the south entrance to the Bahiá Samaná and a base for sailing, game fishing and coral diving. Haphazardly poised on the southern shores of Samana Bay, Miches is a dusty little town without cause, except for the entertaining adventures along the long road there. Just east of the town of Miches is where true paradise can be found. Also called "Costa Esmeralda". The two lagoons, Redonda and Limon, and surrounding area has been declared National Park which makes sure that it will stay a paradise in the future. The way to experience this part of the Dominican Republic, is to stay at one of the few small lodging facilities, far away from the bustling all-inclusives further to the south, in the Punta Cana and Bavaro areas. These small hotels will also help you with excursions and activities. A "must" is the trip on silent, electrically-powered boats through the mangroves swamps of "Redonda" lagoon. If you are there between mid-January to mid-March be sure not to miss a whale-watching tour in the Bay of Samana. Explore and enjoy all the beauty of the mountain Redonda, the lakes Limon and Redonda, the river Cedro waterfalls and the virgin beach of Playa Limon in El Cedro, Miches, Dominican Republic. |
